Aboriginal Liaison

Community Development Worker (XV10 – ON40)
Permanent Full Time
(80 hrs per fortnight) with ADO

We are seeking applications from those dedicated to delivering culturally appropriate care to Aboriginal patients, residents and consumers at WHCG. This permanent full time position is available from January 2022 and includes working Monday to Friday. The Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers assist the Clinical Services team with planning and evaluation processes that ensure cultural needs of the local Aboriginal community are addressed when referrals and service needs are being considered. The successful applicant will work closely with the Aboriginal community, local community organisations and services as well as providing cultural education to WHCG team members.

Key Selection Criteria include:

Essential:

  • Holds / working towards Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice or equivalent
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, society and kinship networks
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team and autonomously
  • Demonstrated capability to confidentially record and maintain data and statistics

Desirable:

  • Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island person
  • Experience with complex and stressful situations with demonstrated ability displaying good judgement and common sense
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with members of the health care groups multidisciplinary team
